Childhood, Such a Magical Time.

August 8, 2012

I love children.
jason lee's adorable daughters. photo.
Research has shown that we as humans have a tendency to perceive children as more attractive.
With their high and protruding foreheads, large eyes, somewhat chubby cheeks, and small noses, many studies have revealed that pictures of infants are preferred over pictures of adults.  If an adult is proclaimed to have a "baby-ish" face, more often than not, it is meant as a compliment.  We are inclined to revere people with these infantile physical traits, like Miranda Kerr, one of the most renowned models today ( and I think one of the prettiest ).  She is loved for her dimples and full cheeks, both qualities we normally associate with children.

cuties. photo.
I don't know about you, but I certainly did not need a scientific study to be done in order to find out that we just plain find children adorable. :)

photo.
These two photography series are done by Jason Lee ( with his two daughters ) and Mr:Mac ( with his son and daughter ), which can be found here and here, respectively.  You may have already seen Lee's two adorable girls, as his pictures have been featured on sites like My Modern Met and the Huffington Post.  Mr:Mac on Flickr has not received as much exposure, but his works are just as amazing.

photo.
Both fathers captured the joy and innocence of their children, framed in a more humorous light.  While the pictures are not necessarily portraits or candids, I believe they represent the spirit of childhood the most accurately.

heehee, it's-a-me, mario! photo.
When I think back on my younger days, I feel that slight tug of a smile on my face.  I cherish those memories of unbridled joy and innocence, when the only thing I worried about was if my stuffed rooster, my most beloved stuffed animal, was doing alright by himself.

some said he looks slightly creepy...but i refuse to believe it! ^^

ps.
To everyone who has seen The Dark Knight Rises, check out this "Batman Maybe" video, where "Joseph Gordon-Levitt" sings us a "Call Me Maybe" parody. :)

Fave line: "You tried to look like / you were happy / but you were Batman / and really angry." :D

  1. haha kids are cute... WELL behaved kids are cute that is LOL. but ya I do agree, bigger eyes, more animated than adults is a def plus for cuteness!

    1. Oh lol, so true. Perhaps kids lose a little bit of cuteness when they're misbehaving like crazy. Though they gain it back so quickly. ^^

  5. I've been following Jason Lee's work for quite a while now, but Mr:Mac is new to me :o I love conceptual photos like these. They bring such dimension to easily overlooked topics. Ah, I miss my childhood now, but in all honesty, I still feel like a child haha. I still have to go to sleep with my teddy, that's for sure *Don't judge me please* :P

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I think we all are, at least parts of us. We can't throw away our kiddie tendencies that easily, it's like that's why most of us still have toys or trinkets from way back. We just can't let that part of us go.
And hahah, I think that's one thing I'm most excited about when I have a kid - I get to dress them up! :)

  30. oh these photos are so cute! I love kids too, because of how innocent and simple they are. it's interesting that there's actually scientific proof of how we are naturally attracted to children. I can definitely see the evidence in someone like Miranda Kerr, but then again I know lots of people who don't like her face precisely because of that young and cute look!

  33. I've seen the photographs by Jason Lee before and I found them a fascinating way to capture memories of his children aside from the traditional Christmas photographs and school event fare. (And as adorable has they are, I also feel this impending dread of entering adulthood– but the spirit of children will always live on, yeah? Haha.) Thanks for sharing the other set of photographs! xx
