I love
xiaolongbao.
Don't know what they are? Technically, they're little steamed dumplings that encapsulate delicious soup and filling. To me, they're heaven.
 |
| their décor is flawless. |
On my short trip to Toronto, Canada, I was lucky enough to visit
Asian Legend, a wonderful Chinese restaurant with scrumptious
dianxin, or dim sum.
I usually prefer dim sum places where the food is carted around by servers, but as this restaurant had a classier feel to it, they lacked that feature. So we just chose to sample a few items, rather than eat a full fledged meal.
 |
| rolled onion pancake with beef. |
I couldn't help taking a bite of this ASAP.
 |
| scallion pancakes with egg. |
Scallion pancakes have long been a favorite of mine, especially when paired with a sauce. It is particularly delicious with egg.
But of course, nothing beats the
xiaolongbao. It had been at least a year since I had eaten a legitimate one ( it was from Joe's Shanghai in Flushing, New York ), so taking that first bite was euphoric.
 |
| i'm a pig. i stuffed my face with so many of these. ^.^ |
Do you enjoy dim sum? What is your favorite? Wishing everyone a wonderful weekend,
i LOVE xiaolongbao!!!! soo yummy. i am so thankful to whoever invented it :)

ReplyDeleteOmg I loooove xiaolongbao! Especially with vinegar to dip with 8Q_____.... I only ever eat them when I go back to visit the motherland, don't know if there's any places here in Australia which sell them. And it's so strange seeing all these humble foods that I grew up with in such a classy setting haha.
ReplyDeleteI love them toooooo! :D I need to stop looking at these pictures, is making me hungry! :D

ReplyDeleteWould you believe I have never tried this! From your great description pictures, it looks divinely yum! We don't have many Asian restaurants here in Safrica, but that is slowly beginning to change, I need to find a good one and order me some of this goodness!
ReplyDeleteThere is a lady who makes them and sells xiaolongbao out of her house in Texas - I've never tasted any better than hers. Luckily, I have a pack of 25 in my freezer right now
ReplyDeletemmm so delicious :)

Oh, this is making me soo hungry & the restaurant looks gorgeous too! I love Asian food & I've had those dumplings a few times, they are so delicious, but unfortunately there's nowhere near to us that do them! The closest we have are the more crispier dumplings that Wagamamas do, which are nice, but nowhere near as nice as these!
ReplyDeleteI love dim sum, I haven't been in so long. This makes me want some!

beautiful photos xixia :) and you're making me so hungry looking at these photos!
ReplyDeleteI have to say, i've never eaten most of this food, so I don't have an opinion =/ I tried dumplings the other day though, and to be honest, I'm not a huge fan.
ReplyDeleteThese look delicious ! I love eating dim sum :P
ReplyDeleteRAHHHHHHHHHH XIAO LONG BAO!!! girl, don't get me started on my obsession with these things! and that place looks pretty fancy for a chinese place! they don't serve xiaolongbao in dim sum places, i'd usually have to go to a Taiwanese or a Shanghainese restaurant for these babies! and Scallion pancakes too...i love them with beef!
ReplyDeletei like dim sum but as i mentioned earlier, they don't offer Shanghainese or Taiwanese food, primarily Cantonese food. I love Ngoi Churng (cantonese pronounciation -- you know those beef things!) YUMMERZ

I love dim sum and as you probably know - I adore these Shanghai dumplings! I think my favourite dim sum dish is probably this and chive and prawn dumplings. In HK, the siu mai are always awesome and they often sell bao jup fung jow, otherwise known as Abalone sauce chicken feet which aren't available in the UK. Nom nom!
ReplyDeleteWOW - I am actually drooling a little bit right now...

My last experience with xiao long bao a few weeks ago was such a disappointment. What's worse was that it was at a much hyped place called Nan Xiang Xiao Long Bao. So much for the hype O_o I need to go visit my local Joe's Shanghai for a fix to make up for it. We usually do Cantonese style dim sum so there's no Shanghai style food there. Our must haves are luo buo gao and chicken feet.
ReplyDeleteYou can have Lee Seon Gyun and Gong Yoo but Lee Seung Gi is mine lol :p

ReplyDeleteOh yummy, the food looks so delish!
ReplyDeleteYou visited Toronto? Oh, I'm so glad to hear that!
ReplyDeleteIf you like xiaolongbao, there is a great place called Ding Tai Fung (same name as the one in Taiwan) just outside of Toronto. They are famous for these soup dumplings!
Hope you had a lovely trip!!!
