Anyways, onto the movies! This month actually features two films I've been excited about for a while now ( it's pretty clear which ones (: ).
february
warm bodies
release date: february 1st, 2013.
starring: nicholas hoult, teresa palmer, analeigh tipton, & dave franco.
director: jonathan levine. ♥
storyline: After R (a highly unusual zombie) saves Julie from an attack, the two form a relationship that sets in motion a sequence of events that might transform the entire lifeless world (from imdb).
ugh. where to start. honestly, when i first heard of this film, i laughed out loud at the concept. zombie love story? how does that work? mark me down as skeptical. but after watching the trailer and realizing that it is directed by jonathan levine (of 50/50 fame), i was won over. having levine direct the film is particularly exciting to me because he has such a keen sense of the journey and pain adolescents go through, as they try to find their identity and place in life. flavorwire even deemed him the next john hughes.
why watch it: quirky coming of age story...with zombies.

identity thief
release date: february 8th, 2013.
starring: jason bateman, melissa mccarthy, & john cho.
director: seth gordon.
storyline: Mild-mannered businessman Sandy Patterson travels from Denver to Miami to confront the deceptively harmless-looking woman who has been living it up after stealing Sandy's identity (from imdb).
do you see who's on the right side of the poster? that's right, melissa mccarthy. from bridesmaids. she was my favorite part of that entire movie (and her puppies!), so i'm ecstatic that she is starring in a film of her own, alongside the talented bateman. my favorite part about mccarthy is just that she takes all the traditional roles females play in comedies and completely throws them out the window. she's wacky, enthusiastic, and not afraid to get down and dirty, so to speak. it's a refreshing change.

side effects
release date: february 8th, 2013.
starring: rooney mara, channing tatum, jude law, & catherine zeta-jones.
director: steven soderbergh.
storyline: Emily and Martin are a successful New York couple whose world unravels when a new drug prescribed by Emily's psychiatrist - intended to treat anxiety - has unexpected side effects (from imdb).
this may be shallow, but i'm interested in this film purely for the cast. there's rooney mara (girl with the dragon tattoo), channing tatum (magic mike, she's the man), and jude law (sherlock holmes, cold mountain). it's hard to imagine a film with this much raw talent being underwhelming.
why watch it: that cast.

beautiful creatures
release date: february 14th, 2013.
starring: alice englert, viola davis, emma thompson, & max irons.
director: richard lagravenese.
storyline: Ethan longs to escape his small Southern town. He meets a mysterious new girl, Lena. Together, they uncover dark secrets about their respective families, their history and their town (from imdb).
in the past few years in film, we've seen a resurgence of the supernatural (young-adult) romance trend. maybe it's because with better technologies, more and more films are able to produce a realistic effect (rather than gimmicky), or maybe it's because studios are hoping to cash in on the twilight phase. most likely, it's a mixture of both. anyways, this film looks promising to me, but then, i have a weak spot for the supernatural (with the exception of twilight).
why watch it: magic and secrets set in a small southern town? i'm there.

Do let me know if there are any February films you're excited for (or seen already!) that I have missed!

They were filming Side Effects a few blocks away from my apt. and I walked by and didn't even realize what it was. Then later I saw pics of Jude Law in the paper. Anyway it looks like a cool suspense thriller.
