On Repeat.

July 26, 2013

gorgeous succulents peppered throughout my walk to the bus stop.
Generally, my life is filled with routines. In fact, my life on the weekdays resembles a for-loop.

for Mondays to Fridays:
  wake up by 8:15 AM → be at work around 9 AM;
  code → snack break → code. repeat many times;
  lunch break;
  code → snack break → code. repeat even more times;
  gym;
  dinner;
  home → skype → glorious sleep;
repeat.

With this kind of a routine, it's expected for life to feel humdrum and well, boring, yet those thoughts rarely crosses my mind.  The excitement and wonder I feel daily is all in the details.

these little ugly dolls represent bugs that must be fixed. to me, it feels like having issues in code is being incentivized. :3
Even bus rides home are enjoyable (to varying degrees hahah). I consider myself lucky to be in a city like San Francisco, where activity is limitless and the people diverse and colorful.

i can never resist ogling at the fluffy dogs i see on my ride home.
Of course, there are parts of my routine that I will never be bored of, no matter where I am: mealtimes. I feel almost overwhelmed by the variety of scrumptious foods available here (my Foursquare list is nearing 200). so each mealtime is a treat.

lunchtime at work : bao ♥.
How are your summer routines?

  2. What a beautiful post. I agree, a lot of beauty and joy can be found in the details lost in the folds of our daily routines. I have to force myself to remember this during the upcoming week. It's easy to forget when work is a drag, haha. Love the bao. They're my favorite, mmmmm.

  3. What a lovely post. I think you are so right, there is something soothing and beautiful in each day, routine or not. Yet routine does feel better to me too.

  5. As I get older, I find that I welcome routine. It's easier to appreciate the little things when your life is stable :) I never get bored of mealtimes either! I love food too much, haha.

  6. Love this post. I do not have a routine now, since my summer vacation has started, guess I will have a routine again after the summer. And the boa looks so yummy!

  7. My summer routines are pretty much the same , even though my work routine is a little bit hectic . Lunch is pretty boring because there are not many options at where I work and then late in the afternoon I always try to go for a walk or do something different. It may sound pretty boring but I like routines, feeling I'm wasting time is something I really dislike

  8. Mealtimes are my favourite part of the day as well, no matter what I'm eating or whom I'm eating with...but it does sound like you've been having a lovely summer, schedule or not (:

  9. I wanna move to San Francisco for the same reason :) But it's really too expensive to live there T_T but I'll be trying :)

    I hope to read more about your mealtimes lol And also, I find it amazing that you wake up at 8:15 and you're still able to get to work by 9 O__O Wonder-woman!

  10. I know what you mean. Sometimes I feel the "routine of life," especially in the summers or when I'm suffering from exam time blues. Luckily, I was fortunate enough to spend my summer travelling! It does make me appreciate what I have at home and the simple things.

    By the way, I love your pictures! They are so simple, but it's so pretty! Succulent plants are the best!
